Cake Decorating 101

22 Feb

Last night was my first night of my Basic Cake Decorating class at the local vo-tech.  It was soo much fun!  I kinda knew most of what we learned tonight, but it was fun to get to play with the tips and such.

In Class 1 we learned:

  • How to cut the hump off of cakes (make both sides flat)
  • Ice a 2-layer cake
  • Star borders

I had my reservations about this class since I’ve had this teacher before for a baking class and we did not click at all.  But last night went well, so I am much more optimistic about the class.

Here is my first cake:

Cake 1

John had to sample it (even though I didn’t make it).

So, the bad part about this class I found out last night.  We have to bring a cake each week to class!  Yikes, so much for WW… 🙂  I think I’ll just bring them to work and my coworkers will either love me or hate me depending on their dieting plans. hee hee.

You have an unhealthy obsession with hearts 😛

    Looks very pretty

CB: Thanks! I did take the liberty of taking pictures of the best parts, lol.

Nikki: I do! I wasn’t planning on doing a heart, but I couldn’t think of anything else to pipe on top. When I showed the cake to John, he goes “Is everything from here to the end of our lives me hearts?” Maybe I should make a football or something next time for him, lol

Very nice! I’d love a slice of that right now.

It is fun visiting your blog just to see what you’re going to do next!

Glenna: The cake is alright, I think it’s a cake mix. The day time Culinary students made them for us lowly night classers. 🙂 Next week though, it’ll be a creation by yours truly.

Ro: Even I don’t know what I’m gonna do next! 🙂

Kyla: I would love to attempt to make a cake for you and Carl. Your anniversary is May right? I have a couple of months to hone my skills. 🙂

Momma: The whole time I was making it, I felt like I was making a low-budget wedding cake, lol!
