Nativity Scenes

29 Nov

Okay, by now maybe some of you are realizing how much I love Christmas.  I realized that I have made a few Christmas posts, but none about the reason why we celebrate.  So, I will change that this morning.  Here is my huge nativity set.

entire nativity set

This nativity set belong to my great-grandmother (Mimi).  She passed away several years ago and my mom got her nativity set, I have sinced talked my mother into letting me “borrow” it.  (I’ve had it for 4 years now.)  This nativity is handpainted ceramic.  Mabel Fonger painted it in 1961. We have no idea who Mabel is, but she did a wonderful job with the set.

Here is Joseph, Mary and Baby Jesus.

I know, I know, my nativity scene isn’t Biblicaly accurate.  I usually don’t put the wisemen with the nativity (they are usually on a table or something on the other side of the room), but I didn’t have anywhere else to put them this year.  So, please forgive me this once. 🙂

OSU Christmas

29 Nov

Several years ago I saw a themed University Christmas tree.  I thought it was so cute and decided I needed one.  I have worked/went to school at Oklahoma State University for the past 6 years so I knew it had to be OSU themed.  So about 3 years ago (back when I still had a disposable income. 🙂 ) I began to buy some ornaments.  My collection has since grown and I can now display them on a full size Christmas tree (They used to just be on a 3 foot mini tree.)  I don’t have room to put it up at my house, so I brought it to work so we can be festive here.  Here is the tree with all our stockings.  Mine is on the top row, second from the left. 🙂

Here are a couple of my favorite OSU ornaments.

Lasagna, yummm

28 Nov

Lasagna

Okay, so I know this isn’t the prettiest meal ever made, but it is one of the tastiest.  Lasagna, garlic bread, and broccoli with cheese.

I don’t really know what my lasagna recipe is because I make it up as I go.  Basically it’s just precooked noodles, seasoned and precooked hamburger meat, spaghetti sauce, cottage cheese, and mozzerella cheese layered until the dish is full.  Bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees.

Steamfresh

Birds Eye knows what’s going on though.  They have all different veggies in “steamfresh” bags.  You just put it in the microwave for 5-6 minutes, let it sit for 1 minute, and you have perfectly steamed veggies that taste waaaay better than canned veggies.

I know, it would be cheaper to actually get fresh veggies and steam them myself in a pot, but we all know that’s too much effort for me. And they are only about $1 more than regular frozen veggies so I buy them.

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday RoRo.  I hope your birthday is great!!

Here is a picture of us from my wedding this summer.  (My mom is on the left and RoRo is on the right.)

Christmas Ornaments

27 Nov

I love Christmas ornaments, almost as much as I love Christmas itself. 🙂  I love the story and memories behind each ornament so I’ll share with you a few of my favorites.

Joe and Patti gave us this ornament last Christmas.  We were over decorating their tree and Patti said I should hang this ornament up (it was still wrapped in tissue paper so I couldn’t see what it was).  When I opened it I was so suprised, I love it!

Engagement Ornament

This ornament was a wedding present.  It’s the annual Lenox ornament personalized with our names and wedding date.

Wedding Ornament

One can never have too many wedding ornaments.  We went to DisneyWorld for our Honeymoon, so we had to buy a Mickey and Minnie ornament while we were there.  They personalized it so gorgeous!

Disney Wedding Ornament

John made this ornament for me last year for Christmas.  It has John, Zerbie and I all portrayed as snowmen. 🙂

 Snowman Ornament

These were party favors from one of our wedding showers.  (I got all of the leftovers. 🙂 )

 Heart

John’s Grandma Weaver went through some of her ornaments and gave us some.  She said since we were just starting out, we needed some old ornaments.

This is one of Mrs. Weaver’s favorites, the man in the moon, kissing a little boy goodnight.

Man in the Moon

Mrs. Weaver remembered watching a man blow this ornament outside the BX one Christmas.  It also reminds us of the year we all went to Top Sail Island when John and I first started dating.

Conch Ornament

This nativity is also from Mrs. Weaver.  I love all nativities, I think this one is exceptionally pretty.

Since John has also done stuff with football, I have to have a couple of football ornaments for him.  This one makes me laugh, it’s a round football.

Christmas Time is Here At Last!

27 Nov

I LOVE Christmas time. It’s not just the gifts that people give me, but it’s more about people’s attitude during this time of the year. Everyone seems so happy around the holidays. People don’t seem to let “little” things bother them as much. People always have a smile on their face and a bounce in their step. Everyone gets together around the holidays so you get to see all your extended families. And everything is always decorated so pretty with Christmas decorations. Christmas decorations will make even the ugliest of houses look wonderful.

Sooo, last night John and I set up our Christmas tree!

Our family portrait. John set the camera on a dinner tray and used the timer function… Didn’t he do a good job! Zerbie was so sleepy, she wouldn’t even sit up, she just kept laying on me, almost pushing me over.

The Write Plate

26 Nov

I’ve been busy working a couple of craft shows selling some plates for a company out of Dallas, TX. Several of my friends asked me to put some pictures of them on my site so here they are.

The great thing about these plates is this is all the same plate! (Well, the Santa hat plate is actually my large platter, but you get the idea). You just write on these plates with a dry erase marker, coordinate the ribbon, and you have a brand new plate. Catherine (the lady who owns the company) is a genius. If you want to get your own plate you can go to http://www.thewriteplate.com/.

Here is my Thanksgiving plate.

Here is my plate at work. This is what’s on it right now.

This is my plate at home… Nothing says Christmas like a countdown. 🙂
